As a parent of 30 years and a teacher of 23 I have a strong grasp on the needs of our students and the challenges of educators and parents today. I have strong ties in the community and have built meaningful, lasting relationships with countless families over the years. I have worked with many of my colleagues on creative solutions to difficult problems. I pride myself on being a dependable ear and a welcoming voice in dealing with colleagues and families. I also pride myself on honest dedication and pure hard work. I strive to be a passionate activist for the EEA, NW-PSEA, and NEA. I have participated in advocacy at all levels in a variety of capacities. I have extensive training in bargaining, grievances and conflict resolution. I am a member of the PACE team and have been active in the quest for education-friendly school board candidates and local leaders. I am compassionate and reliable in the continued fight for the rights of my colleagues at the building level all the way to the national level. I have represented our members as a PSEA Delegate to the House for many years. I have also represented the EEA and PSEA at the NEA Conference for many years. I will continue to represent my fellow teachers to the best of my ability and will strive to grow and educate myself on the issues that most affect education. I will seek to ensure that there is increasing transparency and compassion in our leadership and continue to fight for the rights of our members and for students and teachers everywhere.
I am grateful to Mrs. Nuñez for providing this platform for us to talk about our candidacies. It is emblematic of exactly what our union needs: Innovation, Out of the Box Thinking, and an utter unwillingness to be satisfied with old ideas and tired traditions. Our members deserve more. Our work is too important to simply do just enough to get by. The fact is: our association carries the responsibility of affirming the salaries, benefits packages, retirement arrangements, sick leaves, working conditions, workplace safety concerns, and the overall employment well being of nearly 1000 members. That's more than many small businesses in Erie. This is a huge responsibility.
The basis on how you choose those who will represent you and speak for you on these issues should require more than a 25-word blurb buried in an email. You deserve information and answers-and easy access to both. A 25 word statement is an insult to you and to the importance of elections. That's why this site exists. It shows you the kind of leadership you can expect from this ticket.
The three of us have sat in the seats and listened to the other side and been there to meet your needs for years now. We have ideas to expand our ranks, engage more members, widen opportunities within our local, and welcome more voices to the EEA. Because we'll need them.
As we face the uncertain road ahead our new Superintendent promises, we MUST have a strong, unified voice, a voice blessed with a wealth of experience and wisdom enough to welcome new voices. Join us!
